January 9, 2003

BLOG: Class organization took place. The best computers with USB inputs were selected for use by the class. The drivers for smart media read and write devices were installed on some of the computers. The students immediately started using their previous knowledge to help design some ads for a school publication.


January 10, 2003

LESSON: Continue class organization, install some graphics programs on the computers., and continue working on the ads. For Homework, read Chapters 1 and 2 in the textbook. Send an email to sjhs@islands.vi. (If you can't go online, save it on a diskette. If you can't use a computer, then you can step out of cyberspace and write it on loose-leaf paper). The Objective number is W-01. It consists of 2 parts. In the first part, write 10 topics from the first 2 Chapters that you think will need the most explanation. In the second, part, write a blog of what you did in class today. Make it brief (around 4 or 5 sentences) and consider that it may be placed online. If you do send it by email, try to do it by early Sunday evening at the latest.

BLOGS:

Today in Web Design Class, we completed class organization.  We finished installing the drivers for smart media, and then installed some new graphics programs onto the computers. We then explored some of the programs using pictures we had already stored onto the computers.  Finally, we worked on a few more ad's for the Alumni Dinner Booklet.

During Web Design class which my classmates and I had fun in by making a calender from the pictures the teacher took of us the first day we came into class. Then after that we installed new software to help us make more creative design on the computer with other pictures while the teacher instructed us on the proper procedures of using the new software that we installed onto the computer during classtime. During the final minutes of class we worked on the the special project for the principal.

In class today, we spoke more about our objectives for the class, websites, and possible projects. We continued to work on our projects from the principal by finishing up the ad pages from the previous day and working on the new ones. Afterwards we continued to install the new photo-editing software and we tested it by using our web class photo.

Today in class, we had a really good time exploring programs that dealt with pictures. We installed a program called Photo Suite on our computers. After we finished our work with the ads, we got familiar with the Photo Suite program. I know that I will enjoy the graphics section when we learn about how to design a website.

Today in Web Design class, new programs were installed on the computer. The name of the program was MGI Photo Suite III. We used the program and then we began making calendars. Also, we viewed the pictures that were taken in class. After the calendars were made, we continued working on the project by creating more ads.

 


January 13, 2003

LESSON: Go over the lists submitted by the students regarding the 10 topics needing the most explanation. Prioritize the topics and then start explaning them. The principal needs to have more work done on the alumni diiner booklet which comes up shortly. For Homework, re-read Chapters 1 and 2 in the textbook. Do Objective W-02 which consists of writing a blog for today's class following the same directions as before.

Today, we prioritized the topics from last homework, choosing the ones that we will focus on during the semester. We continued to work on the Hall of Fame Booklet, adding more pictures and graphics to the ads to liven them up. We also installed a new photo-editing program calle Screen Shot Deluxe 3.0 that will allow us to enhance our photos.

Today in Website Design class we discussed topics that we felt would need the most explanation during the course.  We loaded a program called "Screen Shots" onto our computers which we can use to take pictures of our desktops and then save them as JPEG files.  During the final minutes of class, we continued work on the Alumni dinner booklet, and even tried to print some of the completed ads.  Unfortunately for us however, the laser printer was not working properly so our work on the ads was delayed.

Today in Web Design class, we discussed the various topics that the students selected that needed the most explanation. Pictures on the Microsoft Photo Editor CD were also viewed. Then, we continued working on the Alumni Dinner booklet. All the ads were saved. After creating the ads for the booklet, some of the ads were printed.

Today was basically almost the same as yesterday. We started off by having a discussion about topics that need to be explained more. After that, we started working on the Alumni Ads. I made sure that our checklist was completed. Our time in class was spent finishing the ads that we were given,

In class we went through the list of topics each of my classmates picked . While briefly discussing what this class would be about. Then last few minutes we worked on our Alumni ads for the principal. While the teacher instructed us on the proper procedures.

 

 


January 14, 2003

LESSON: Start explaining HTML. Make a simple web page. Continue web ads- this will count as Objective W-03 . Do Objective W-04 which consists of writing a blog for today's class.

Today was quite busy. We wrote our HTML for our website and had an opportunity to view them. From the example in the book, it was quick easy. We also saved all the Alumni ads on a disk to be revised later. We also took new pictures to put on our websites. We plan to get more in depth with the HTML concept on our future web design class session.

In Web Design today, we created our first simple web pages.  Each student followed guidelines provided in the textbook on page 25 to put together a sample web page.  We each used whatever information about ourselves that we felt was fit for the page, and we even included jpg pictures of ourselves on the page.  We then tried to combine all the ads for the ad booklet onto one floppy disk, however this was unsuccessful so we had to combine them onto the removable drive.

Today, we created simple websites using HTML. The web sites contained brief biographies with our individual photos. We used simple text without any background color or graphics. We also saved all of the completed ads for the Hall of Fame booklet onto one disk.

We did a few different things in class today. Individual pictures were taken of each student. We then created a simple webpage using HTML. Notepad was used to create the webpage. After the webpage was created, we each put our individual pictures on it. We created the webpage by following the example in the Web Design Textbook. We then put all the ads for the booklet in one disk.

In class we learned how to make our own webpage. By using the HTML document instructions on page 25 of the web design book. Also we put our own pictures that the teacher took of us at the beginning of class. While getting help from from another student so we could see our pictures on the website.

 


January 15, 2003

Lesson: Continue with developing a simple web page. Add a link to the St. Joseph High School website. Add some lines. Use the HTML's for a paragraph ending, See if you can find the html needed to change the background color and text color. If necessary, use this webpage and view the source. Continue working on the ads.

Hurray!!! We are well on our way with designing our very own websites.  We included links to other pages, and even lines separating the flow of our text.  As time progressed, we got so caught up in all we had learned to do, that the class period ended and we didn't even know.

Today in class we continued to add more graphics to our websites. I continues to add some more biographical information to my site and I added theweb class photo. We also added lines to or website and it gave them a more professional look. Others played around with some graphics, different fonts, andbackground colors.

Today I wasn't in class today because the principal needed me and another student to pick up so computers at a local company. While we were over there at the company we waited patiently for the computer to be brought outside in front of the building. Then later we dropped them off in the teachers lounge.

We continued working on our webpages. The text color for the webpage was changed. Also, a link to the St. Joseph High School website was added to it. After the link of the school was added to the webpage, we then changed the background color.

Today I changed my website's background color and also added a link to St. Joseph's. I also included lines from the HTML of St. Joseph's, I mainly copied and pasted. We also worked on ads and when we were finished, I continued adding to my website.

 

 


January 16, 2003

Lesson: Today, we will work mostly on the ads and devise a division of labor. The ads will count for Objective W-06. Do W-07 Blog for homework. Don't give any specific names.

Today in class we designed a division of labor. One student was the ad supervisor and another was the executive secretary. We divided up the ads so that each person would have something to do. We continued to work on our websites and changing the colors.

We worked on the ad booklet for most of class today.  We set up a team to get the job done more efficiently.  Each person had a separate task and then we revised and collaborated all the finished ads into one folder.  During the remainder of the class period, we continued work on our websites.

Today in Web Design the teacher nominated people for certain job. One student was the Ad Manager, another the sectrary and also other people to. We worked more on the Ads and also our websites. On the websites we learned how to change the color and other HTML.

For most of the class today, we all worked on the ads. Each student was selected to do a specific job. One student was selected to be the executice secretary. Another one was the ad supervisor. We also saved the pictures that were needed to create the ads in a folder. Then, all the ads were saved. We also continued to work on our webpages.

Today was mainly about getting as much of the ads done as possible. We were more organized in our attempt to be more efficient. After we did as much work as we could have done, we all just finished touching up our websites. i think that we will get more work finished now that each of us have specific duties.

 


January 17, 2003

Lesson: Today, we have loads of ads for the alumni dinner booklet. We need to have them ready to go to the printer by Friday, Jan.24th. The ads for this week will count for Objective W-06 and you need to send a summary of the specifics of what you did on the ads in your weekend email (send it with your homework). Do W-08 Blog for homework. Don't give any specific names.

As we worked on the ads, we organized our information and added other things to them. We revised, changed fonts and added nice borders to the ads. We also changed around the wording and even updated some of them. Others we harder to do because we have to edit photos to put on the ads. It was difficult to do some of them because they had special sizes for them. I enjoyed organizing and designing the ads because it was something I haven't done before and I enjoyed the challenge.

In Web Design Class we took the time to look through our Ads to see what was done from what needs to be finished. It took us a while to get organized but we manage to do it. During the last minutes of class we worked as hard as ever to finish the ADs. All we need is to do now is look at what we have from what we do not.

Phewwww!!!. Very stressful day, we were totally busy revising and creating ads today.  There was no time for anything else, the ad booklet was our first priority.  We completed alot of the ads, and have them ready to be printed.  However there is still some cutting and pasting to be done.

For the entire class, we worked on the ads for the Alumni Dinner booklet. We also added borders to the ads. Each person was selected to do an ad. All the finished ads were organized. There were also three different folders to put the ads in. All the ads were revised. After each ad was completed, it was saved.

 

 

 


 January 21, 2003

Lesson: Today, we need to finish the alumni ads. Some students may need to work beyond the class time.

Today we worked effciently to get as much ads done as possible. I did a couple of ads and i updated the ad list several times as we worked hard to get the ads done. We also included pictures and symbols according to the professions of the people. For example, the lawyers would have law scale pictures and the doctors would have medical pictures.

Ads! Ads! Ads! Today we cut and paste some of the Ads, we created some new Ads, and revised some of the old ones.  We organized the Ads and then gave them to the teacher to be printed.

Today in class, we worked on the ads for the booklet. Pictures were added to the different ads. Each person also did some cutting and pasting of the ads. All of the ads were revised and corrections were made. The full page ads and the half page ads were also completed. After each ad was finished, it was saved. Each ad was given to the teacher to be printed. All the completed ads were organized.

Today in class, we recycled some of the clipart from the previous ad booklet to add to this booklet. The ads were due today so that the alumni can review them. We still have a ton of ads to do and we are trying to finish them by Thursday so that they can meet the printing deadline.

In Web Design today we worked as hard as ever as we tried to finish the Ads for Dr.Diverio. As we worked hard today putting on the finishing touches to the Ads time flew by quickly. Then later we looked at what we had from what we didn't. We worked the whole of classtime on ADS.

 

 


January 22, 2003

Lesson: Today, web ads take preference again. We would like to take another group photo of the class for possible use in one of the ads. The ads for this week will come under Objective W - 10. For practice and for actual use, we will soon be developing websites on 5 unique and different tree species on the campus of St. Joseph High School.

Today in Web Design class we worked a little bit less on the ADS and more on our websites that we created. Then we took the time to take some more pictures of the class. While our Ad Manager worked on the Ads for web design class. By the time we finish all of this class was over.

Today in class, we hurried to add the finishing touches to the final ads. The ads are almost finished, just in time to be printed. We also took some new class photos that we will use in the ad journal and on the class website.

Class was a bit different today we did not have as much work to do as times before. We worked on ads none the less, and then we took new pictures for the website.  Teacher spoke about an upcoming project and test on html.  I also created an ad specifically promoting the Web Design and Graphics class.

In Web Design class, the teacher spoke about developing websites on five different trees on the campus. We also worked on the ads for the booklet. An ad for the Web Design class was also done by the manager. Then, after all the ads were revised, several pictures were taken of the Web Design class. The pictures were saved on the computer.

Today was mainly about getting ourselves organized again. We took some pictures to put on our website and the ad booklet. We started added more stuff to our website and getting the list organized. We tried to add pictures to some of the ads also. 

 


 January 27, 2003

Lesson: If the internet is working, students will do research on the project they will be doing on the trees of St. Joseph High School. The number of this objective will be W-12.

Today we reviewed the first chapters of our books in preparation for a test on Friday. We talked about all the things that we will need to know both for the test and for our general knowledge of web design. After we reviewed, we went outside to try to identify trees to use for our projects. I found a beautiful tree that bares yellow flowers, but if I cant identify it I might have to use something else. We will start working on our tree projects soon, finding info on it and making  a web page about it.

Field Trip!...Today we reviewed chapters one and two from the text in preparation for our test on Friday.  We then took a stroll around the schools campus looking at and trying to identify particular trees on the schools grounds that we could use for our upcoming project.  We took pictures of the trees and then organized a list of which student would be researching what tree.

Today, we had a lecture on the first two chapters. Our teacher reviewed all of the main points and he explained some of the more complex topics in the chapters. We then went outside to pick our trees for the research project. The research will be used to create a website about the trees at St. Joseph.

Today in web design class we briefly review the first 2 chapters in the book. While we took our time to review each section we answer each question that was said in class.Then later we walked around the school taking pictures of trees. While the teacher took pictures of them.

In Web Design class, we all reviewed the two chapters in the book. We discussed a few different topics such as HTML, graphic design, and interface design. After we reviewed each section in the book, we went outside to take some pictures of several of the trees on the campus. The pictures will be used for the website about the different trees. After five trees were selected, each student chose one paticular one to do research on.

 


 January 28, 2003

Lesson: If the internet is working, students will do research on the project they will be doing on the trees of St. Joseph High School. The number of this objective will be W-12.

In Web Design class, we started working on our webpages. Each of our webpages was about a specific tree on the campus. The picture of the tree was resized using a program on the computer. Then, after the picture was resized, it was added to the webpage. After the picture of the tree was put on the website, the background color was changed. Text was also added to the webpage. After everyone creates a webpage for the tree that they chose, research will be done on it. Therefore, more information will be added to each of our webpages.

Today in class we started our project for our tree that we took pictures of yesterday. All of us started on our website for the tree. Which took up all time during class. Then we discuss a little bit on each website.

In class we worked on our web pages about our tree. We choose a tree to make a web page about, researching and getting pictures up about it. We worked on adding some text, pictures and special effects to our pages. This assignment will be counted as a project for the class. I plan to add some graphics and make my page the best that I can possibly make it.

In class today, we officially started on our tree websites. We uploaded all of the pictures we took the previous day and we put our pictures up on our own sites.

On Tuesday, we began working on our project.  During this project we will research different trees on our schools campus.  I am working on the Palm Tree.  I began my webpage, I cropped, resized, and formatted the picture of my tree so that it would take up less space on the page.  I added a colored background and text to my page, and then saved all the information so that i could come back to it later. 


January 30, 2003

Today we did some more research on the trees that we are doing our project on. We got some boooks from the library and we researched our trees. I worked on organizing my page and changing the background color. I plan to add more information and to customize my page to the way I want it.  

In Web Design class, we all worked on our webpages about the trees. The teacher brought in three books about trees. Students also went to the library and brought some more books about trees. We then viewed the books and picked the one that had the most information on the tree that each of us were doing. After we looked through the books, text was added to our webpages. It was then saved on a disk.

Today in class we worked on our websites. Then I add some graphics to the website. After that we recieved our disks to save them on. While working on them class went by like a breeze.

Today we got a few books that our teacher brought and some more from the library to do some research on our trees. For the entire class period we continued to read and add information to our websites. Our teacher will show us how to do a bibliography for sources on a website.

For the entire day today, we used books for references to improve our tree websites.  Some students were sent to the library to find more books, and then we choose the important infomation we would need from them.  Then after using them, we cited the information correctly. 


January 31, 2003

Lesson: Test today. The test Objective number is W -17.

We had a test today, It was very comprehensive, and even a bit hard, I think I did well.  After the test, we worked a little more on our tree websites, then class was over because we were on the shortened schedule.

In Web Design class, a test was given to each student. The test consisted of two parts. On the test, we had to explain what the term HTML meant. Then, we had to write the format for creating a webpage on the paper. We also had to include the format to put a picture on a webpage.

Today we took our first Web Design written test. I didnt expect a few things that appeared on it. I am thankful that i was able to put logical answers down. I hope I pass because I was able to recall a few things that appeared on the test. Next time, I will be more prepared when the next test comes around.

Today w took our first test. We had questions on topics like the role of the servers, the difference between entranet and extranet. It was a challenging test.

Lesson: See the blogs.

 

BLOGS:

(W-19)

We used a few more refernces to add to our tree projects today.  We researched information about our separate tree and then added the necessary information to our pages.  We also uploaded some pictures from the Alumni dinner onto one of the computers, and then we loaded a new program onto each computer.

Today we continued to work on our websites. Our goal is to have them finished by Thursday. Our instructor brought a few more books to look at and tomorrow he will show us the correct sourcing technique.

Today we worked on added more information to our tree websites. We also used information from books that were provided for us. After we finished up updating our pages, we viewed the pictures from the Alumni Dinner at Carambola and uploaded them to a computer. Then when we were all finished, we had a enough time to install additional programs and to get familiar with them.

In Web Design class, we worked more on our webpages about the trees. The teacher brought in more books about trees. We viewed each of the books and added more information to our webpages. We also installed a new program on the computer. Then, all the pictures from the Alumni Dinner were saved on one of the computers

 

 


February 5, 2003

Lesson: See the blogs.

BLOGS:

(W-20)

Today we reviewed what was in chapter 3. We also went outside and took some pictures of our trees. After that, we uploaded the pictures on our computers to use them tomorrow when we work on our webpages a bit more.

In Web Design class, we reviewed the chapter in the book. We discussed several different topics such as uploading files and registering a domain. After we reviewed each of the sections in the chapter, we went outside to take more pictures of the five trees on the campus. The pictures will be added to our webpages. After each picture was taken, it was saved on the computer.

We worked on our tree sites again today.  We went outside to take better pictures of our trees, then we loaded them onto the computer and edited them.  Some of us added the new pictures to our websites already, others have not

In class today we had a lecture on the topics in chapter three. After the lecture, we ventured outside to take a few more pictures of our trees to snazz up our web pages. Our goal is still to finish them by Thursday. On of my classmates was chosen by the instructor to register for a web domain on tripod.com.

Today in class we worked on our websites. Then reveiwed chapter 3 with class as a group. Alsowe uploaded some more pictures into our computers.

Lesson: Continue of tree websites. Distribute bibliography formats.

In class today, we put the finishing touches on our tree projects.  We were allowed to take our disks home to make any final corrections.  We also added some graphics to the ad contest winners add...We had a good day.

Today, we had a lecture on chapter four. Some of the topics we focused on were unknown browsers, unknown platforms, and unkown user prefernces. After the lecture, one of the students who was absent on Thursday had to complete their sites, and the rest of the class added a few finishing touches to their pages.

In Web Design class, we reviewed the fourth chapter of the book. We discussed several topics such as unknown platforms, the window size, and the connection speed. After we reviewed the chapter, we continued working on our webpages. We added more pictures to the webpages. We also added some more information to our webpages.

Today in class we diid some final touches to our website.Thenwe had a long and interesting discussion on Chapter 4. Then we took a look at the ad contest winners speech.

 

 

 


February 10, 2003

Lesson: Go over Chapter 5. Finish tree websites if possible. Install and practice using website and FTP software.

Today we did quite a few things. First off, we finished our websites and after editing them we saved our final draft to the disk. We couldn't get the Homepage program working so we used Microsoft Front Page and we got familiar with it. With Frontpage, we worked on making lines, headings, inserting pics, adjusting fonts and other things. We also started making sample websites using this program. We hope to get some FTP programs installed and have the internet up so we can work on our websites in Tripod.

In Web Design class, we continued working on our webpages. We also saved the blogs that was on a floppy disk to the computer. Then, we created a webpage using a new program on the computer. The name of the program was Microsoft Front Page. This program is not like notepad. Microsoft Front Page can create webpages automatically. There are several features in Microsoft Front Page. There is a preview button. Microsoft Front Page contains different options that can be used to create a webpage such as a form and a horizontal line. A picture, the date and time, tables, and frames can also be inserted automatically using Microsoft Front Page. The background color for the webpage was also changed using the program on the computer.

Today in class we installed Microsoft FrontPage on our computers, which is a program used to build websites. It produces results faster but I prefer the conventional method. I crated a new website which was modeled after the first one- they both have a brief biographical info and links to the class and school sites

Today in Web Design class we worked on our website just putting on the final touches on our website. Then later on in calss we messed around with Microsoft Front Page which can be used to do the same thing like notepad but instead it does everything for you.Front Page is like a word document but youcan use it to make websites. Also it has more capabilties than notepad.

We used a different program to create a webpage today, the name of the program was Microsoft FrontPage.  Unlike the other program, this one doeas all the work for you!!!   All you have to do is type in the information, insert the graphics like a regualar text document, and then when the page is viewed in a browser, the HTML is transferred to the server automatically and you dont have to sit there and type all those hard to remember codes.  We also tried to load another program onto the computers, but the cd rom did not want to work.

 


February 11, 2003

Lesson: Go over Chapter 5. Install and practice using website (try again) and FTP software.

Today in Web Design class we review Chapter 5 with the teacher. Picking out the most important parts of the chapter. Then we exchanged seats so we sit in different areas of the computer lab. Then installed so more software on to the computer.

In Web Design class, we reviewed the fifth chapter of the book. We discussed the web design process. We also discussed several different topics such as content creation, information design, and producing graphics and HTML documents. After we reviewed the chapter, we all used a different computer instead of the one we always worked with to create our webpages. Then, the teacher gave us several cd's. Everyone installed the FTP program on the computer. We also viewed the pictures that were saved on a cd. Then, we viewed the Web Graphics cd which showed several different backgrounds that could be used for a website. We also viewed the pictures by using the photo program.

Chapter five in the text book was reviewed in class today.  We had a lecture on the information during which various topics throughout the chapter were discussed.  Later on in the class we loaded two new programs onto the computers for FTP.  We also worked on editing some pictures using a photo program.

In class today we had a lecture on chapter five. Later, we all switched computers and we installed FTP software. Our teacher also gave us a few CD-ROMs with thousands of graphics to play around with.

 Today was revision day. We also worked on the graphics programs. I edited alot of pictures and tried inserting them in Microsoft Front page to see how they would come out as a webpage. I also saved some graphics from a CD-rom with graphics pics on it.

(W - 24)

In Web Design class, we made revisions to our tree webpages. We changed the names of the pictures that were saved on a floppy disk. We also changed the size of the pictures. Then, we added more sources to each of our webpages. We also viewed the Web Graphics cd which showed the different backgrounds that could be used for a website.

I tried to work on my webpage but I didnt have any information available to revise my page. I fixed my title and made sure the pictures worked. I also started to think about ideas for my other website. I made a page with a few of the backgrounds that I saved from the graphics CD-ROM. It was a sample page but it got me familiar with the features of Frontpage.

 Constructive Criticism: Today in Web Design & Graphics class, we were given back the floppy disks containing our tree projects.  Teacher told us about the mistakes we made, and gave us advice on how to correct them.  Throughout the class period which was shortened because of Mass, we used the teachers suggestions and made improvements to our tree sites.  While we worked on our sites, the teacher loaded a html program onto one of the computers running on Windows XP, he tried it because in the past few days, we failed to get it onto our computers which run on Windows Millennium Edition.

 Today in Web Design class we worked a little bit on our websites. Then after we finish what we had to do on our website we took the time to read each chapter. Also the teacher installed a html program on one of the new computers.

 


February 19, 2003

BLOGS:

Today we worked on our internet yearbook.  This is a project we have started which will include pictures of the 2002-2003 school year along with activities, clubs, and sports.  I worked on my page which is about the Liturgical dancers, I edited the pictures  like teacher said, and added text and links to the page, I am not finished yet though.

Today we worked on our new website a little more on our new website in class.While we were working on them the teacher walked around and help us. Also I used the Photo suite program to brighten the pictures. Then by the time we got a chance to work on them class was done.

We are working on another website in Web Design class. The website is about different events at the school. There were several diferent topics to choose from such as the walkathon, the liturgical dancers, the opening day of school, and many others. After everyone chose a specific event, we started working on our webpages. We each viewed the pictures for the event. We then saved the pictures of the event from the cd on the computer. We also changed the background color for the webpage. The webpage was then saved on a floppy disk.

Today we worked on our websites about St. Joseph High. I added several pictures along with caption. I was told to brighten alot of them, so i did. I also wrote paragraphs about each picture telling how i felt and its influence on the school's morale. I tried to get them finished so I can save them on a disk. I'm almost finished, I have 2 more pictures to put up and write about.

Today we added some more elements to our internet yearbook.  Some of us completed our components and handed them in, other have not.  AT the beginning of class, we had a very interesting lecture on chapter six in the text book.

Today for web design class we reviewed chapter 6. While reviewing each section we just picked out the important things in it. Then we had a chance to work on the websites a bit. I tried to adjust my pictures.

In Web Design class, we reviewed the sixth chapter of the book. We discussed several different topics such as HTML tags and attributes. We also discussed these topics: giving the page a title, saving and viewimg the page, formatting text, what browsers ignore, and adding a Hypertext Link. We then continued to work on our webpages about an event at the school. After we created the webpages, it was saved on a disk.

In Web Design class, we continued working on our websites. I also uploaded the tree website using the FTP program on the computer. The website was put on the tripod site. We also chose several different topics for another website. All the websites that are created will be put on a CD-ROM. Each of the websites will eventually be like an internet yearbook. Some of the topics for the other website were the JETS team and the faculty. Besides Microsoft Front Page, we are also using a new program to create websites. The program is called Claris Homepage. Claris Homepage also creates webpages automatically.

In Web Design class, we continued working on our websites about the different activities at the school such as the Jets Team, the fashion show, and the Fun Day. Everyone has chosen a topic for their websites. Today, I viewed the pictures that were on a CD for the topic that I chose. Then, I resized the pictures and made them smaller. I adjusted the color of some of the pictures. I also tried to make the pictures brighter by using the photo program on the computer. I chose a background for the website. After all the pictures are placed on the website, I will then add text to it. After I resized the pictures, I saved them on a folder on the computer. After all the websites are finished, they will all be put on a CD-ROM.

WELL...today we were told to work on graphics and mainly improve them. I worked on getting my site organized because the graphics disk was occupied . I started my soccer site and finished organizing my funday site. I worked on a few graphics and saved them to my disk. I also got some ideas from the comments of my classmates.

In Web Design class, we used the computers that has 16 bit color or 32 bit color. In these computers the pictures appear brighter. We are working on another website for the internet yearbook. Today, everyone chose a topic. The topics included the mass which is held on Wednesdays, the electronics class, and the history about the school. I started working on the website for the internet yearbook and chose a background color for it. I also added some text about the topic. I tried some of the photo programs that were installed on the computer. Also, new programs were added to each of the computers such as Microsoft FrontPage, Microsoft PowerPoint, and a photo program.

Today in Web Design class we began the second semester with a new website. The teacer had us think of ideas for our new websites. Many people worked on different ideas that the teacher gave them. While installing software on the computers that they were working on.

Today in class, I was working on getting my websites finished. I have been having problems with my graphics and today, I have been trying to figure out the problem. I also got the privilege to do a site about St. Joseph. I also found out the results of my midterm, I could've done better but I was pleased with my grade. I am going to try to get my websites done as soon as possible but in the meantime I'll try to figure out a layout for the new St. Joseph history site.

Today in class we saw our Mid-Term exam grades. Most of us have completed our four websites and I have begun a fifth one. The fifth one will be on the girls of Carlow College. I spent the rest of the period looking for pictures.

In class today, we did a variety of things; some students worked on unfinished websites while others worked on creating new web sites. Before I began working on my new website about Wednesday Mass, I worked on putting together a Power Point Presentation about the members of the senior class. This project was related to the class in that I used the Photo Suite program to edit the pictures, and the presentation was modeled after my already finished website about the senior class.

During the week, we have been working on several websites for the internet yearbook in Web Design class. Everyone has finished their fifth website. We are woking on the sixth website. The sixth website will be about a particular class. Pictures will then be taken of the students in the class. The topics are: the history class, the religion class, the spanish class, and the sociology class. I have placed the pictures of the class that I'm doing on the website. I have also resized the pictures so that all of them are able to fit on a floppy disk. After the pictures were resized, I saved them on a floppy disk. The program that I used to resize the pictures was MGI Photosuite III.

Through out the past week, we have accomplished a lot of tasks within web design and computer graphics class.  We finished five of our previous websites, and have started working on a sixth.  We loaded a few programs onto the computer including ACDSee and another graphics program.  In all we had a very productive and busy week.

During the week, we have all continued working on the websites about the different classes for the internet yearbook in Web Design class. Everyone has picked two classes to do their websites on. The pictures of the students in the classes has been taken. We have also installed several programs on the computer. FTP, MGI Photosuite, ACD See, and a photo program were all installed on the computer. We have also placed the school's website on all of the computers. All of us have also learned how to translate a page into another language. After I resized all of the pictures for both of the websites, I then saved them on a floppy disk.

During this past week, we met in the Computer Lab.  In there we reloaded most of our software  back onto the computers.  The internet in the lab is up and running so we are able to use the lab for classes again.  Because the internet was down, the technitions had to remove a lot of the programs off of the computers so that they could fix the problem, now that it is fixed, we have reloaded our programs and are ready for a very productive week.

During the week, we have been working on several websites for the virtual yearbook in Web Design class. The topics for the virtual yearbook are: lunch, modday, the making of the virtual yearbook, the location of the school, and student council. Everyone chose a topic to create a website on. Pictures were then taken of some of the students during lunch and in their modday clothes. For the websites, I resized some of the pictures. I then saved them on a floppy disk. After I saved them, the pictures were renamed and then placed on the website. I then changed the background color and added text to the website. I also learned about a program that allows you to pickup websites and put it in a directory automatically.

This week in Web Design, we worked very diligently on trying to get last minute web sites completed.  We also began formulating the information and techniques that we would use during our student teacher experience as part of our final exam.  We also began work on a label for the front of the virtual yearbook, and we received the results of our last test.

During the entire Web Design class, I have learned many various things. I have learned that HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language. I also have learned the difference between Information Design and Interface Design. Information Design involves organizing information. However, Interface Design determines how a site's structure will appear visually on the screen. In Web Design class, I have also installed several programs on the computer such as MGI Photosuite, ACD See, Claris Homepage, and a program called Screen Shot Deluxe. I have also learned how to create different ads using Microsoft Word. In addition to these things, I have learned how to translate a page into another language by using freetranslation.com which is a website.

In Web Design class, I have learned different facts about some of the trees on the campus. I have also learned basic HTML by using a program called notepad. Besides notepad, I have used another program to create web pages. One of these programs are Microsoft FrontPage and the other one is Claris HomePage. Microsoft FrontPage is not like notepad. It creates websites automatically. Throughout the Web Design class, I have learned how to resize pictures in order for them to fit on a floppy disk. In Web Design, I learned how to make a picture brighter by using the MGI Photosuite program. I have learned how to change the background and the color of the text on a website.

I have also learned the definitions of several tags and attributes such as P, IMG, HEAD, BR, HTML, and HR. P is the tag for a paragraph and IMG inserts an inline image. HEAD identifies the head of the document and BR inserts a line break. HTML identifies the whole document as html and HR inserts a horizontal rule. All of these are some of the tags that are used to create a basic web page in notepad. I have learned the different parts of a URL which are: the protocol, the domain name, the pathname, and the filename. Also, I have learned about graphics. Nearly all of the pictures on the internet are in one of the following formats: GIF or JPEG. I have noticed the differences between both of them. GIF stands for Graphic Interchange Format and can usually contain a maximum of 8-bit color information. However, JPEGs are 24- bit color images which can contain many colors. In order for a JPEG picture to be used on a web page, it must be named with the .jpg suffix. When creating a website, I have learned that after the document's name, it should be saved on the computer or on a floppy disk as .html. I have also learned the way in which an apache web server works.

In the Web Design class, I have also registered at tripod. I have learned how to use the FTP program. Therefore, after I registered, my website was uploaded to the internet using a program called CUTE FTP. I have learned about navigation design, image resolution, and animated GIFs. I have also learned how to add a link to a web page. Basically, in Web Design I have learned how to create websites in different programs and have used the FTP program to upload my sites to the internet. Everyone in the class made different websites for the virtual yearbook. In addition to these things, labels were also placed on the CDs by the class. As a result of taking a Web Design class, I am now able to create many different websites that will contain a background color, text, and pictures. In conclusion, since I have learned how to use the FTP program, in the future I can publish all of my websites on the internet.

During this week and parts of last week in Web Design Class we completed our final exam which was to teach two people who had basic computer skills in Microsoft Word and or Word Perfect on how to create a website. The two students I recruited were 2 teachers at the school. The main purpose of this course is to teach you the student the basic uses of HTML. Each and everyday students will learn step by step how to create a simple and easy website consisting colorful pictures. While learning how to use a CUTE FTP and also put the website they created on a free tripod .com website.

While I was teaching my new students on how to create a website I was also giving them an introduction into Basic HTML which is called Hyper Text MarkUp Language. Then they made a practice website in Notepad which allowed them to understand the importance of HTML for a website. With that out of the way them I showed them a simpler way that allowed them to create a website in a Microsoft Program called Microsoft Front Page.

After they learned quickly on how to create a website through Microsoft Front Page they then went to tripod. com and registered for free membership. While later uploading their website on to three free tripod account with Cute FTP which is a File Transfer Protocol. That allows you to transfer files form a document on to the web. After they upload their site on the web the went to tripod and access it.

Web Design class has been very informational and interesting for me, personally it was a chance for me to be creative. Before the class, I had some experience with programming but this was an entirely different experience.

Having my friends with me, us enjoying class together, was one of the best parts. We learned something new everyday. And from the experience, we realize that we will continue learning each day in the future as well.

As our days as seniors draw to an end, I can say that i honestly wouldn't have made a different choice if I had to choose a class. With us being a small class, anytime we get together is a good thing and although class isnt always the greatest thing to us, we enjoy learning together and sharing experiences. I will miss sitting next to my classmates laughing or discussing a tricky HTML.

I advise anyone that has ever touched a computer keyboard to take a Web Design class, even if it's an intro. You will be amazed at the things you create and the depth of your creativity. I amazed myself with some of the work we did. I am truly proud to say that I'm in Web Design class because this is where we truly had unique experiences, even if it was just sitting typing out HTMLs for our websites.

During my time spent in web design, I acquired the basic, working knowledge of the web. It has become anew and interesting hobby. I learned the basics of HyperText Markup Language (HTML), the different tags and attributes, and how to create a website using a simple word processor. I also learned how to use two web-authoring tools, Microsoft FrontPage and Claris HomePage, the latter of the two being used the most. I know how to edit and manipulate photographs using programs such as MGI PhotoSuite III and ACDSee. I, along with the rest of my classmates, played an instrumental role in creating the school's first virtual yearbook, and as a result, I'm sure that there will many more to come. I understand FTP and have mastered the task of using the CuteFTP program, which we used to upload our sites onto the web. I have learned so much that I was able to pass on my knowledge of web design to my fellow classmates. Last but not least, I learned how to create the labels used for the virtual yearbook. The entire process of creating the label, prnting them, and final adding them to the finished product. It was an interesting and fun experience and I'm sure that the knowledge given to me during the duration of this course will serve me well in the future.

During the course of My Web Design and Computer Graphics class, I learned alot of new and interesting things about the computer, the web, and web graphics.  I learned how to create simple web pages using note pad, and then how to create more stylish sites using Front Page and Claris Home Page.  I learned how to use FTP in order to upload my site to the internet, and I learned alot of useful codes and other HTML language that will be useful later on. 

 I learned alot about Graphics, how to create them, and how to insert and display them on my page.  I learned alot about taking photos and formatting them to fit my liking, and then how to make them the right sizes so that they do not take too long to load.  I learned how to test my sites to make sure that they work in all different types of browsers, and how to make links to my favorite websites.

 Most importantly, I learned alot about having fun with the computer, I enjoyed helping to create the Virtual Yearbook, and putting together the numerous photographs that the teacher has taken.  It was a very good class, and I enjoyed being in "Cyberspace" while it lasted.
